Rural Schools

What better place to learn about evolution than in the country? England’s rural settings offer numerous plant and animal species to study. However, very few researchers to date have gone into rural schools to find out what challenges and opportunities teachers experience.

Hence this project – aimed at discovering teachers’ and pupils’ perceptions of teaching and learning about evolution and at working on strategies to enhance the teaching of evolution in rural schools.

The research has taken us around the countryside with a teaching kit of mealworms, jelly and tweezers. It has also led to a range of outputs we hope you will find useful – particularly – research findings, lesson plans and other resources all of which can be found in this section.
